When Champaign closed their only public recycling drop off center, we knew that it was imperative to stand up and take responsibility for our community.

Out of that loss was born Green Purpose, a multi-faceted, innovative organization committed to reducing the amount of waste that goes into our landfills by preserving the resources that we discard on a daily basis, and making them into something that still holds value today.

Who We Are

Green Purpose, LLC is an eco-minded enterprise that provides communities with innovative solutions for reducing waste every day.

We have committed ourselves to reducing solid waste and developing economic growth through sustainable practices so that our members can achieve green living with convenience.

In order to reach this goal, we have developed a sustainable business model that financially and environmentally supports handling recyclable material and reusable material, creating economic opportunities and educating the community about the importance of recycling and reuse.

Addressing a Need in the Community

We believe in green living and research shows that our passion is shared by much of the community. Green Purpose is poised to become the one-stop location for recycling, reuse, and repurposing.

Our goal is to combine a traditional recycling center with a green-shopping store, a materials exchange program, and custom repurposing solutions center. As the end of the year approaches we expect to gain enough momentum to grow within the community and beyond.

A Brief History

Green Purpose, LLC initially began as a hobby of our CEO, Steven Rosenberg. At first his mission was simple, to collect trash in order to see what could be reused or repurposed from other people's waste.

It was mind-boggling to see how much people threw away in this community; especially the college students on campus. After the collection began to grow, Steven began to not only repurpose and reuse these items, he created a clothing line and started selling items that were still functional. Many of the items that were collected were even still in their original packaging! Steven realized that Green Purpose could become much more than just collecting waste, but could make a substantial difference in the way our community views recycling and waste management.

Green Purpose, although it began as just a hobby of our CEO, has developed into a viable option for those who wish to continue recycling in our community as well as for anyone concerned about environmental issues and sustainability. At Green Purpose we believe in a concept of "Reuseanomics," which has allowed us to grow into a company that will benefit both the community and the earth.

Reuseanomics is the concept of taking non-recyclable materials and transforming them in any way possible to extend their useable life and keep them out of landfills. From this original concept, we have evolved into an organization that is attempting to solve the recycling problems of our community, while increasing ways for the community to reuse discarded materials with our repurposing solutions. Green Purpose has evolved into a multi-faceted, and completely original organization, committed to reducing the amount of waste that goes into our landfills by making them into something that still holds value today while preserving the resources that we discard on a daily basis.
